Mama Kat's Hoover Give Away Extravaganza

I had big dreams for this contest, but I've put it off long enough. Hoover probably hates me because they sent me this vacuum weeks ago to give away and I'm just now getting around to it. I finally came to the realization that I was never going to complete my original plan of video taping myself with the Hoover infomercial style. It would have been funny...at least...it's funny in my head.

Picture something similar to this:

Funny, right!?!

Only the vacuum I'm giving away is more like this:

And that commercial is way better than anything I can do...that dog never would have cooperated like that for me.

I will tell you a few things the commercial did not mention though...and I say this not because Hoover also gave ME a free vacuum (the Hoover U5491-900 WindTunnel Anniversary-Edition Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner), but because I really mean it. This vacuum has three things going for it.

1.) It's pretty. And shiny. I'm thinking about having my picture taken with it and sending it out as our family Christmas card this year. Ok that's a lie, but it IS nice looking...for a vacuum...and if you happen to have a turquoise themed room then it's absolutely perfect for you.

2.) It sucks. It sucks as Hoovers are known to do and leaves the nicest looking vacuum lines you ever did see. So nice in fact, that I force the children to sleep in closets now so as not to disturb the beautiful pattern the vacuum has left on my carpet. Ok that's a lie, but it really does suck. An infomercial would probably throw loose change on the ground and prove it to you...and while I'm sure it could do the job, I certainly don't want to break it and the sound of a vacuum running over medal makes me want to throw up. You'll just have to take my word for it.

3.) It moves. This is the best part. Hold on to your hats (if you're new here you should know all my readers wear hats...it's kind of a requirement). It's Self. Propelling. That's right, with just one small push this thing has a mind of it's own. Now I jog while I vacuum and feel the pounds melt away!!! Ok that's a lie...but it DOES move!?!

OK so here's where you come in. If you leave me a comment you will automatically be entered in Mama Kat's Hoover Give Away Extravaganza. If you happen to compliment me in your comment I'll give you an extra entry, but it's SO not necessary as I rarely seek out such public displays of affection (pretty sure I just used that term incorrectly).

And you HAVE to mean it.

Want FIVE more entries!?! Of course you do you greedy bunch. Then post a ditty on YOUR blog talking about the vacuum giveaway and link back to my page. When you've finished your post come back here and add your name to Mr. Linky so that I can go double check your work.

Let the games begin!!!

Ooooh- I hope I win! And Kat, you have one of the funnest (yes i know it's not really a word) blogs and an adorable family. Not to mention great readers! ;-)

I will mention this on my blog right now.

Oh, and pick me, pick me, pick me!!! My vacuum is from the mid 1990s and a huge piece of crap.

Well, Kat, I gotta hand it to you, this is one blog that definitely doesn't suck!

I'll try and blog about your giveaway tonight!

I could really use a new vacuum since my doesn't suck so good anymore. Plus I love you're post about the vaccuum. I like how "honest" you are, even if it's after the fact. Here's to clean carpets.

Don't pick them! Pick me pick me!! Have I ever told you that your are one of the most funny, beautiful woman I've ever seen!! How's that for compliments...that should be worth like 100 entries right there!

:P Totally going to discuss you today on my blog!!

Mekhismom said...

How great is it that you got a Hoover for yourself and to give away? Really great. And you know why that happened to you? Because you are special and funny and truly deserve great things. You've been through alot and held it together! Kudos to you!

Ms. Florida Transplant said...

You have such a beautiful family!

My house is over-run with dog hair. Imagine what I could do with this vaccum! The self-propelling feature makes it possible for me to hire child labor who would otherwise not be able to complete the chore due to the monsterous size of the avearge vaccum. Fabulous!

(joking...!) ;-)

Brandy said...

It IS shiny and pretty...just like you. Er, you're pretty, not shiny. That I know of.

Are you shiny?

Okay I'll stop now before I ruin my chances.

lime said...

ok, first time commenter here though i have been reading for a few weeks.

i rather loved you section on how the hoover sucks. i get in trouble at home for my won little phrase "sucks and blows like a shop vac." if i will i ill change it to sucks like a hoover because you are a woman after my own heart. (uh, i do intend that as a compliment)

Rachel said...

Wow...I told you what a great writer you are and now Hoover has recognized it too...they sent you a vacuum for free and your spreading the love...you da bomb girl!

KimmyJ said...

I need a good sucker around here.

Oh and Kat has the most adorable kiddos and she can cook.

Kendra Field-Bennett said...

What a great contest. You are so creative with the wanting to do the Hoover ad, seriously. I would have said "post the vacuum and run but nooooo you go for the gusto! Thanks for entertaining me.

Midwest Mommy said...

Whoo hoo, you are awesome, brilliant, smart, funny the list goes on and on. Ok, now wish me luck on getting a hoover :-)

i'll totally play along and suck up, because it's true!

you have a great blog, a perfect little place in cyberspace to come visit for a well-written, often funny post! and your family IS gorgeous!

hook me up with a vaccuum, we could use something that can keep up with the dust bunnies, triplet toddlers & pre-teen...

i plan on blogging about it. no, i will. someday :)

Kendra said...

I like the picture. It's almost as good as the in-your-head infomercial. And to compliment you, I'll channel my husband's motherland and write you a haiku.

She's our Mama Kat.
Gorgeous, witty, an icon.
Better than Ellen.

Lurker Girl said...

I am a newbie to your blog, but have found endless joy and laughter reading it.

Oh and I need a new shiny vacuum too because my husband decided that mine was a shop-vac and tried to clean up saw dust and broken bits of wood with it this weekend.

Shame on him!

Lurker Girl

BeckyDittmer said...

I think that's one of your best photo shop pictures yet! It almost looks real! Good Job!

Jen said...

I just have one questions, if I win do I have to use it? I am not very good with a vacuum and I don't know if I actually know how to use one.

Oh and Mama Kat is awesome, pretty, nice, beautiful, funny, sweet, and one of my favorite bloggers around. ;)

Tara said...

I am sure you would beat Joan Clever hands down!! Did I mention that my vaccum really sucks? Sucks as in sucks nothing up, not sucks like as in does a great job!!

Thanks for having such a great funny blog. I read it daily, just never comment.

Amber said...

Your blog is one I never miss. I cried when you hurt your arm, laughed with you when you locked your keys in your car (with keys inside). That's such a "me" thing to do. You have such energy to do fun things with your kids, who would have thought you'd have time to blog? Brilliant! And, I'm not blowing smoke up your #$$%. Love ya, and boy do I need a new vacuum. I haven't had carpet lines in 10 years! Do you see how deprived I am! Plus, no money to buy a new one? You just have to pick me!

Crazy Momma said...

Oh, you KNOW I want this! And, BTW, Mama Kat, that first picture of you is BEEEUUUTIFUL! So 1950s...I'll be posting on my blog soon enough!

Darcie said...

So once I get done telling you that you're beautiful, smart, a terrific writer and you have gorgeous kids...I'll tell you that I think this is a fantastic contest and I'm eager to win! I'd love a new vacuum. Mine is four years old and was the cheapest one on the shelf at Walamrt. It doesn't suck...which makes it suck all that much harder.

Brooke said...

who am I kidding. I just want the vacuum.

jenn said...

I check your blog every day! You rock!

(Also, I really, really want a new vacuum!)

Caren said...

You know you're on my blog roll right Kat? I often leave you comments even when it's not for a vacuum, right Kat?

I have lots of turquoise in my house, it happens to be my second favorite color BUT, the most important reason I would like to win that gorgeous vacuum is because in some little way, perhaps it would help me to be even half as beautiful, funny and as smart as you. I wanna be just like Mama Kat!

I'm off to add your contest to my blog now. Hope those compliments were complimentary enough for you!

Michelle said...

I jut have to say that you rock because you constantly crack me up. And the informercial is funny in my head, too, so I'm going with what I'm picturing. PLUS you have the greatest demos of recipes of anyone :) Mmmm that Thai chicken is good!

And I so so so need a new vacuum, and I'll explain why in the post that I'm going to write once Little Miss goes down for her nap. Now? I'm going to pretend like I'm going to go running at the gym. Wish me luck!

Caren said...

Ok, I'm a big dork. I linked to my blog (on number 12) but got my URL wrong so it doesn't work. I fixed it though so now number 13 works. I don't know how to get rid of the one that's wrong. duh. sorry.

Tara said...

OMG! It's here... the vacuum giveaway! Kat, you are the greatest! (Is that a compliment?) I love, love, love your idea of giving a vacuum away. How did you get the hookup with Hoover? I have an idea... maybe Ellen will let you give it away live on her show... I've got to get some photos of my current vacuums and then I'll post!

Christina said...

You are toooooooo funny! I love it! But ya know what I love more??? This vacuum! I want it and I NEED it! My vaccuum smells like burning rubber and I think that it might be time to send it 6 feet under!

Girl you know I heart your blog, remember my post telling you so when you were having issues with the blog bullies. oh and I always comment not just when there is something in it for me-like a free vacuum!

You have three oh so cute kiddos and those girls do the best cooking shows I have ever seen.

Oh and I left you an award the other day with a nice little linky to you. Yes I know you have gotten plenty awards but this one was extra special because it was the first time I had handed one out.

Now off to pimp my blog out to get a free vacuum:)

Okay - I just have to know - is it better than my Dyson - cause I have a dog that sheds A LOT and I have to vacuum twice a day - will this new fangled thing make my chore less? Down to once a day? I would forever be in debt to you and Hoover!
Oh and by the way - the video - could have made you a new career?? dear one, you know in all your hot-ness!

Wendy said...

You do be the prettiest prettiest blogger in all of blogland! And, you are so smart and funny too.

Monica said...

Oh, Mama Kat! You don't even know how badly I need a new vacuum. When you walk behind mine, you have to watch out for flying debris. It doesn't actually suck anything up. It just shoots it out the back and right back onto the floor. Sigh. I so need a new one.
And here you come in all of your awesomeness with a giveaway? My hero!

This Mom said...

OOOOOH I love vaccuums. My hubby says that I am an adicit. But I have three floors in my house and I really like having one on each level. But they all are old a crappy. I really could use a new one. But my luck is that I NEVER WIN. I hope hope though.

oh yeah Mama kat how do I love thee let me count the ways...

1) you seem to be a photoshop expert.

2) your wonderful sense of humor, I laugh every time I visit.

3) You are way creative, you put the rest of us to shame.

I could go on but this is already a really long comment. Just PICK ME PICK ME

Mama Kat, you are so pretty. You have a rockin' blog and I have a non-sexual crush on you. :)

How many do I get for that? ;) Off to link now.

Mama's Losin' It said...

The fact that there are fifty comments and it's not even 9:30 in the morning yet tells me two things.

1.) ya'll are desperate.

2.) ya'll are dirty.

After reading some of these comments I find myself wishing I were Oprah so I could just give you ALL vacuums. Awarding one person a vacuum is fun, but will disapoint millions (I'm anticipating some more entries)

I'm thinking of having some runner up prizes...you know I'm thinking don't you...it may be time to bust out some aprons.

Jo-Jo said...

What a great give away! I am going to try and win this for Tabi over at Tabi rambles on. I dont really need it. So if I win...send it to her!

Okay. my carpets would thank you. Especially since our central vacuum broke and will take a load-a-dough to repair or replace. My son just got a new sheltie pup also. Does puppy smell appeal to you?

If I win, maybe you can present it to me on Ellen. If not, I will probably dream that you did. How is Ellen these days?

You are beautiful, creative and funny. You are clever and smart and your hair is to die for.

Does that get me six more entries? I could go on...

Mama Kat is the equivalent to if Dooce and the bloggess had a lesbian love baby.

Wait, it gets better.

Then that baby got knocked up by blogspot.

Not done.

Then that baby stumbled drunkenly into a SITS post and started giving away free vacuums.

And had kids of its own. And the vacuums were hoovers. And it fell down stairs.

I think that was a compliment, it was meant to be anyhow.

Molly said...

I want this vacuum, but more than that, I want to tell you how incredibly gorgeous you are. You get me all hot and bothered and in a good way! You are so pretty, I often sit at my desk and day dream about what it would be like to be you, then I start to day dream about making out with you because you are pretty damn hot and gorgeous and pretty and cute and pretty and hot.

Do I get extra bonus points?

You're awesome, you're amazing, you're incredible, you're funny, you're oh so pretty, you're crazy, you're cool, you're neat, you're witty, you're creative, you're interesting, you're smart, you're chic, you're grand, you're charasmatic, you're unpretentious, you're adorable, you're befriending, you're colorful, you're dignified, you're effective, you're fantastic, you're gifted, you're hilarious, you're ingenious, you're jolly, you're kindly, you're luminating (I started going through the alphabet but I couldn't think of anything for 'm' so I gave up)...

I love, love, love reading your blog. It makes me laugh. It makes me cry. It makes me want to be a better writer. It makes me WANT TO BE YOU.

Okay, the schmoozing is done. Here's the real reason why I should get the vaccuum.

I DON'T HAVE ONE.

I'm a lonely single woman who lost her only vaccuum when her mean 'ole roommate moved out and took it with her. Who cares if it was hers??

I NEED A SPARKLY NEW VACCUUM.

Thank you, oh wise one, for your consideration.

beckyjomama said...

OH! If you only knew how I need a new vaccuum.

PLEASE! Pick me!

Marrdy said...

I am sorry I have been neglecting such a talented photoshopper!! Love the 50's pic. Brilliant.

I went to many Barry Manilow concerts many moons ago and he said he wrote a jingle for Hoover that they didn't like. It eneded with Hoover really sucks" can't imagine why they had a problem with it!

Joy said...

Holy Batman look at the comments. They really come out of the wood work for something free don't they.

But hey you can buy my love all you want:) but even if I don't win (which BTW I totally expect to win) I will still love you and promise not to pout or call for a recount or accuse the winner of cheating, NO not me I would never do such.

asthmagirl said...

While it's my first visit, I've quickly reached the conclusion that you don't suck! Anyone with a new Hoover must be awesome!

Mrs.D said...

Will the winner be announced tomorrow? I'm going to bed now, and will be dreaming of that pretty blue vacuum sucking up the tumbleweeds o'fluff around my house, courtesy of my fluffy cat. ;-)

Kathy_in_Colorado said...

Wha a fun blog - my compliment for you beautiful lady is I love your humor - I would love to give this to my son and daughter-in-law who are expecting my first grand baby - woohoo!

I love Mama Kat because she gave me a super beautuful wine glass. I think of you everytime I use it. More lateley then not!!!!

Jennie said...

This is my first time to your blog, and I really enjoy it...your children are beautiful.. I have three and they make a MESS!!! I need a new vacum so winning this would fab-u-los. I hope you can take a look at my blog some time... have a great day.

Berek said...

I really like your sense of humor-sorta reminds me of mine when I'm on my best behavior and all the firearms are under lock and key.
Anyhow I'd love to win this sucker (no pun intended) because the crappy one I bought to replace the ancient one at the library which decided to toss sparks and melt the plug, is unable to stay in one piece long enough to keep the cleaning lady from using words that make the Velveteen Rabbit on the poster in the kid's section turn green and cover his ears.

Margo said...

Well, I don't know you and I just found this site through Scargosun, and I think you're awesome already!
It is so great that you admit when you are lying, don't make your children sleep in the closet (or is it that you do, and you just don't make them sleep in the closet specifically because of the carpet?), and are giving away a vacuum cleaner that I know my Mom would love. (I don't even iron my clothes; asking me to vacuum is a real stretch. My Mom would adore this, though.)
Nice job on the post and on the hoovering give-away!

Margo said...

Hm. I just realized that "Mom" should not have been capitalized in that post. Sorry about that. I'm exhausted right now.

Melanie said...

You crack me up! I think you should definitely have your picture made with it. You never know...you could be Hoover's next spokes person.

Lipstick said...

Oooh, I would love to win that vacuum!

I am really impressed at how connected you are to have a vacuum giveaway. That's a big deal. I was thinking of doing a give away wtih some Clorox wipes or something. *wink*

MrsWhimsy said...

OMGosh, you have totally read my mind. You are so smart. And clairvoyant. (that is spelled wrong, but i am too lazy to look it up. I guess the English teacher in me retires after 11 pm).

Anyway, my vaccuum is totally busted beyond repair. I really need a new one. Bad. Contests are so much fun!!!!

forgetfulone said...

Oh, I could so use this! My vacuum doesn't such anymore! We need a good Hoover vac. There is debris all over and it gets brought into the house (this is since the hurricane paid us a visit) and I can't afford a new vacuum right now since we have to replace some siding and the fence.

And did I mention how clever I think you are? Love what you were gonna do with the videos!

Trish said...

Oh My stinkin heck. I need this. My vacuum broke last week. I went a week without vacuuming then a friend wanted me to watch her one year old baby, so I told her she would need to bring her vaccum over so that her baby didn't ingest all the junk on my floor while under my watch. She was kind enough to leave her vacuum since she has central vac. (yeah I'm jealous). Then my husband took our to the repair man today.....He said "it's not worth fixing. You can but a new one for less" I wasn't buying one right happens to sell vacuums too. So here I am vacuumless except for my borrowed one and here you are giving away a Hoover.

You and I were meant to be, we complete each other.

I'm off to post!! I'll be back to Linky.

ihchicky said...

Kat's the best because she's giving away a hoover! How many bloggers do that!?

Trish said...

Would have loved to see you in the infomercial, you are so beautiful and talented (this is the compliment if you haven't already surmised that).

Great give-a-way.

Sweetheart, you already know that I love you! I mean, honestly, I check your blog first, before all other RSS feeds! :} REALLY! It sucks that I only get on the computer every couple of days!
So I love you, you dear sweet poodle. Now let me brush your hair. :}

Oh me oh my, how I NEED this vacuum! This is my first visit to your blog and I'M HOOKED! Already added you to my Bloglines. Your kids are darling, btw.

Jeff said...

I wanna know how you got a vacuum to giveaway. The best thing I've been offered is a razor. That must be because you're so hot.

Ann said...

It works, huh?
Well, if you say so. I haven't had a truly good vacuum in years. I'm pathetic!!!
I even asked my hubby for one for my birthday and he scoffed saying "That's not a good birthday present."
YES!
YES it IS!!!
Some day I will have a vacuum that truly sucks. (A girl can dream.)

Rogers said...

Hi. I found you through Tip Junkie. I was just reading about the bachelorette party-HILARIOUS!! You're a very captivating writer. I loved reading your blog. Count me in on the vacuum giveaway

Debbie said...

If you did take a picture with the vacuum, you would make the pretty shiny thing look very drab. How is that for a compliment? Really, I want a new vacuum!

lifegoesbyfast said...

Is a vacuum supposed to suck? I swear I think mine blows. LOL! Love your post. Your blog is the greatest!

Rion said...

That is one nifty vaccuum.. man.. it seems like it just sucks so much. If its possible, I would like to give my chance at winning it to Mrs. S... as we just went out and bought a vaccuum last week!

Dawn@Embracing the Ordinary Life said...

Oh my you are just the most wonderful beautiful and delightful hostess of all time...and you make such a nice compliment to the vacuum!!

Does that count?

Miss Grace said...

You are so amazing and beautiful and perfect and I dream about someday coming close to being as great as you :)

Amazing_Grace said...

I love your blog! What a neat idea to have a Give A Way!

teri said...

Oh, Mama, you're just the bestest! You know, you could've *sneakily* kept the give-away 'sucker' for yourself; but being the wonderful, truthful, considerate, generous and - not to mention - beautiful person you are; you're giving this shiny little beauty away!! Whatta gal!

I'd realllllly love to have this little sucker. My son has single-handedly (footedly??) been bringing home (piece by freakin' piece)the woodchips from the pre-K playground. In his shoes. So, I currently have a lumber yard in my living room carpet. Been thinking seriously 'bout selling it back to the preschool by the pound.

I don't know you well enough to pay a compliment about you... except to say that offering something truly USEFUL as a giveaway is priceless and obviously shows your compassion for the world -- and those of us who are out of work and still need to clean their apartments.
Thanks for the offering!

Do not need it, but I will still tell you what a fun blog you have and
how beautiful your family is.
While you are computer generating your winner, I will keep my fingers crossed for Tricia @ It's my Crazy Life.
Good luck to all who enter.

Maeve's Mom said...

Mama Kat, you are awesome and funny and gorgeous with gorgeous children (is that enough compliment to get me a 2nd entry). I really, really need a new vacuum and so cannot afford to buy myself a Dyson.

-Bridget said...

My current vacuum is a 17 year old Hoover that still uses a bag (know how hard those things are to find these days?). I need that new Hoover!

You are the bestest and my favorite blogger named Mama Kat. For an extra entry I'll even save you another corny "suck" pun.

Kathi said...

What a cute post. I'd love to win. Love the way the old commercials show women in high heels and pearls (like June Cleaver) vacuuming. Cute. Kathi

Michelle Mettlen said...

New to your blog....Love, Love, Love it. Please enter me in your drawing. My OCDness would so enjoy having a new vacuum. Very generous of you. Pick meeeeeeee!

I would love to win this vac. Crazy how the price of a good vacuum is still about the same. Great blog by the way.

ellen (not!) said...

I have a compliment--it's that I just love your generosity! The thing is I NEED a vacuum cleaner, my house suckss but my cacuum cleaner diesn't. Suck, I mean!!

You'll see my post on your generosity mentioned on my blog, too!! Wanna come and see

Channah said...

I would love to win this vacuum, as my washing machine, the vacuum cleaner, the window, the truck tailgate, and the electrical system in the garage all died on the same week. This would be at least one less thing I'd have to replace on my budget.

Oh, and I must say - I love your hair! It's so pretty, shiny, and straight! I have to use like 3 bottles of Frizz-Eaze, a flat iron, and it's still not that straight.

Nancy said...

just found your blog, hope i win

I'm not sure if I already commented here, and there are a LOT of comments up there so I just thought I'd comment just in case.
You see, that house we just bought? Has carpet. The house we're in now, has none. So, mama needs a vac. BADLY. I'm going to post about this too, because I want extra entries. I'm greedy like that.

Carolsue said...

This giveaway really sucks! Ha Ha. It's really a great giveaway and you are a sweet, wonderful, generous person for offering it up! Is that sucking it up enough?

You know, I actually read most of these so as not to duplicate. You have gorgeous skin, and gorgeous kids. :)

You have a super cute blog, and i could use a new vac...

Lauren said...

If winning were based on need I would win hands down! I cannot afford so much as a carpet sweeper right now. I have three special needs kitties that make the biggest mess I have ever seen kitties make in my entire life. I currently use a manual sweeper I saw on television and bought a few years ago, that looks like a squeegee. BTW I found you through http://luvmydoxies.blogspot.com/

And your site is really pretty!!!

Heather said...

Mamma Kat,

You are such a wonderful, caring, pretty person. You are so wonderful for giving away this super cool vacuum. And the teal color...you are just so awesome! I totally agree with your comment on keeping the kids in the closet so the vacuum lines don't get messed up. You are just so smart. I love your ideas! Well, could you please enter my into your wonderful give away for the Hoover vacuum...if it's not to much trouble for your pretty little self?

Thank you so much,
Heather

This would be grand to win a vac. My daughter and I were downstairs cleaning, no one near my vac sitting a good 12 inches away from the top stair and down it came. It takes two hands to push it around now with some rod bent in back. It was a CRAZY thing how it fell. A friend called a little later and said they had just had a earthquake in Illinois. I laughed and told her we must have felt it 10 hours away in Missouri since my vac fell of it's own accord. I haven't been able to decide what kind to get, it's been a few years since I last checked them out. Your header is pretty funny.

Vamp said...

I would love to win! I've had my Hoover since 1993 & it is really on last legs. Hubby convinced me to get a new one in February (Kenmore) & I really don't like it so I've only used it a handful of times. Now he's trying to convince me to get a Dyson(Tyson?) but I just can't see spending 600 dollars on a vacuum cleaner no matter how good it's supposed to be!
I'm a Hoover girl at heart :-)

Jodi Renshaw said...

Ok, I don't really know you - so it would be hard to leave a glowing compliment in order to kiss butt for an extra entry - BUT I can tell you that you are absolutely gorgeous because your photos tell me so :)

Thanks for the giveaway!
