*Shannie Elle's* Mom called this evening to inform me she found Brice on little *Shannie*. She assured me it was only one little bug and nothing to worry about and that I didn't need to bother calling the parents and that maybe I should just keep an eye on the other kids and watch for any itching.
I then proceeded to freak out and called all of the parents. As much as I like and trust Shannie Elle's Mom I'm pretty sure that's protocol and parents must be notified if Brice the Lice comes to school or daycare. I'm pretty sure I'd want to know.
Then I ran around the house like a maniacal monkey gathering every stitch of washable material and threw them together in plastic bags to wait for their turn in the washer:
12 Nap mat sheets
15 Coats and Jackets
7 Princess dresses
20 Stuffed animals
22 blankets
and
3 pillows
And that doesn't include Maile, Laina, and Kainoa's room and bedding.
I also went around and vacuumed and sprayed with antibacterial spray.
Brice the Lice is not a welcome addition to the daycare. He did not pay his retainer fee and I'm trying to make the environment here as hostile as I can so that he realizes he is not welcome.
Maile and Laina are Brice free at the moment. I'm praying that Brice decided to leave and does not invite his entire family over to infest our happy little home.
Only time will tell.
And I can't. Stop. Itching.
ps This girl just replied to my Craigslist ad for the afternoon assistant position...

She's cute right??? She said she currently works as a caregiver in an assisted living facility. That's good. Old people and kids are kind of the same. I still need to set up an interview with her. Maybe I should just call her and tell her she's got the job because let's be honest, if she checks out and she wants it...then it's hers...long as she doesn't bring that dude with her.
ps Am I gonna get in some kind of legal trouble by putting her picture on here?? I figure the paparazzi do that kind of crap so I should be able to too. I'm kind of like the paparazzi...only not.
I guess if you didn't want your potential employers stealing your pictures from your myspace profile so they can post them on their blog then you wouldn't be putting them on there.

Ugh, I hate lice! I guess nobody really likes them, come to think of it.
I hope you don't get infested with Brice & his pals.
um yes! do tell the other parents. isn't not telling how these things spread? (by the way, do you just love it when complete strangers tell you what you should/shouldn't do? i suppose we are usually agreeing with you. but seriously, doesn't it sometimes really tick you off?)
on another matter, did i miss something about miss warm and fuzzy? i thought she was your new assistant?
I'm itching right now!!
We had Brice to our house a long time ago..he was not invited back, I tell you.
Just kick his little lice butt out!
Good luck!
Gross! I my most recent post is aout lice, too!! I work at an elementary school and have faux-lice paranoia (a mental "case" of lice "caught" from working with a child that came down with it.) I've had the itches ever since, and I really don't have it. (i made my hairdresser check me!) I feel for you, if a nit were in my house I'd be a psycho cleaning machine! good luck!
A girld I had a crush on in 6th grade had lice ... I'm not sure what that says about me.
Yuck! Brice and his family should die.
Yuk! In Honor of Brice- I have written a little poem-
I do not like Brice the Lice,
I do not think that he is nice,
He looks a little like white rice,
He runs around just like mice!
Will he stay? Or will he go?
No one really does know...
But this I can tell you
I know for sure,
Mamakat will destroy them
and they will return no more!!!
Sorry- I could not help myself- :) I am crazy like that!
Ugh, I never had lice nor do I want it....but you have me itching. hope brice stays away!
Bryce showed up uninvited in my son's preschool 4 different times. He kept getting kicked out, but he didn't get the message. Little bugger. (pun intended)
KEEP BELIEVING
Definitely tell the other parents. I would be ticked at my daycare if I found out they knew and didn't tell me.
And, I say her photo is fair game. Good luck with the interview.
ew! i think you definitely did the right thing by telling the other parents!
if you can tell anything from a myspace photo - she's really nice and fun to be with, lol!
Eww, lice. I'm shuddering just thinking about it. I can't imagine what a pain it must be as a daycare provider to have to deal with all that.
I am itching now too!
Gotta love myspace as a form of background check!
I hope the Brice got the hint...YUCK!
Yikes!
I'm pretty sure you're good on the picture....maybe. Do your daycare parents read your blog?
Some kid in my class got lice in elemetary school. We had to have the nurse check us with the chopsticks and sent a letter home with us for the parents. I didn't have it but my mom shaved my head anyway so that my sister wouldn't get it.
Good times.
I personally don't post pictures of anyone on my blog without their express permission but if her myspace page is public then I don't suppose you could get into any trouble but if she finds out she might feel a bit violated.
Just my thoughts.
Peace.

Three YUCK-O's to brice the lice! I hope you were able to de-lice your house.
And for new girl - post away!
Oh if she has it on her myspace it is fair game!
and for the lice I have heard Tea Tree Oil works great. Here's hoping it doesn't show it's ugly head at your house. You did tell her to keep her buggy kid home I hope!
This brings back unpleasant memories. Good luck in your task!
I hope Brice the Lice leaves you and yours alone. Now I'm itching....
I love that you search out your potential employees on myspace.
And, yes, if they don't want people taking them the shouldn't be posting them. Or, at the very least, set their profile to private.
Lice, ticks...both make me itchy!!
We went through the lice thing at our acreage a few years in a row! It was AWFUL!!!
Good luck to you!!!
"Kelly! We got to save our BABY!"
I think Brice the Lice stopped off in Reno on his way up to your neck of the woods because a few weeks ago there was a huge breakout at Ned's school. Funnily enough, it was the girls that caught it and passed it around to each other the most. It must be because they are all huggy/kissy with each other. Fortunately Ned didn't get it but it made me each too.
And yes, you have a responsibility to inform all of the other parents in case they need to delouse their kid!
I despise those things! It seemed like I had to deal with them over and over when my boys were little. Yes, I said BOYS! Boy's don't sit around and brush each others hair, they don't swap hair bows and hats or sweaters and jackets, right? I mean how in the world did my boys keep getting that crap? I finally resolved to shaving all their heads, that worked out wonderfully, no hair = no lice. Now all but one keeps his head shaved (he's the rocker type) and the rule is, if bugs show up, it's his fault and we will shave all his shaggy long head-banging hair completely off!!!
I'd freak! One little bug? Is that even possible? I'm itching just thinking about it. If my kids ever bring Brice home, I think I'm going to have to be institutionalized for a few days. Because if not I'll itch my skin right off.
It has gone through my kids schools too before. I have heard that using tea tree oil shampoo makes them not want on you. Plus you can by a spray for your furniture that is made by the people that make the lice shampoo, just so you know.
Guess what? You've been tagged. Go to my blog for further details.
ok so I am having a hard time typing b/c I am itching with just the thought of lice. I guess that is just one of the hazards of running a home day care. I hope you don't have any more visits.
Kaysville Momma has some good tips for Mr Brice.
Okay, isn't that funny how you will itch like hell???? A friend's daugther wound up with a visit from Brice and she was here for my daughter's birthday party during his visit... Fun. I called all the parents that were at the party, disinfected everything (de-loused everything, rather,) was a paranoid freak about checking the kids' hair and must have asked my husband a zillion times if he was SURE that he didn't see anything in mine... I mean, if I my head was itching that badly (but only when I suddenly remembered the lice scare,) surely there had to be something there... We never got them... But, it makes you a paranoid fool.
One little bug? You know those things can't be loners. Brice surely is not on a solo vaca.
I remember in second grade, we had a lice epidemic and my mom got so tired of using that teeny tiny comb on my super thick and long hair, she left the bathroom, came back with a pair of orange handled scissors and just started cutting. I totally looked like a boy in my school pic that year in my baby blue Izod, cuz, ya know, aside from a lil clear lip gloss, Catholic school girls don't wear make up b/c they'd look like whores. I still have not forgotten (nor forgiven) her for that one.
I think Brice is going around....my cousin just randomly had it but her daughter didn't catch it...weird. She said that instead of the shampooing and tiny pic comb like when we were kids, the dr. just gave her cortisone cream that she slathered all over her head and slept with ...then Brice was gone. fyi.
Sadly I have had experience in the lice department. Antibacterial spray won't do anything, but they do sell lice spray for the unwashable things. Great, now I am itching.
i remember having lice when i was little, a buncha people in my class had it. EW! i remember the combing of that white crap in my hair. you did right by informing all of the parents...i'd be pissed if i wasn't made aware of the situation.
I've got to stop going on my hiatus spells. I thought you had already found someone to fill the assistant position?
Yuck. I hope that Brice only stays at Elle's home and never makes it to your daycare.
Ewww! anytime I hear about Brice and his pals...I get itchy all over!!
I'm totally itching!
Totally.
